Church Vocabulary

On tuesday, we got to go to the church to get a tour from Father Joe. He showed us different things to help us get ready for First Communion. By: Bunny

He let us smell the special oils used for different sacraments. By: Butterfly 

We enjoyed when we got to see the tabernacle. We prayed together in the chapel. By: Leopard

Sacristy: A room that holds the vestments and the bread and wine for mass. By: Dog
Chalice: The cup that holds the blood of Christ at Mass. By: Swan
Ciborium and Paten: They hold the body of Christ. By: Cheetah
This item makes incense but they use it on Christmas and Easter Vigil. By: Leopard and King Kong
The Bread and wine before they are consecrated. By: Snake 
Pyx: It's used to hold the body of Christ so that sick people get Jesus. By: Baby Pig
Vestments: The colors represent the time of the year. The priests wears them. By: Roly Poly 
Here is Father Joe. He is holding his chasuble that he wore on his ordination. By: Python 
Paten and Pyx: They hold the body of Christ. By: Humming Bird
A special sink in the church. It goes straight into the ground. They pour the left over blood of Christ that they can't drink. They use this to wash the patent too so that no crumbs of Jesus' body gets lost. By: Cat
This is a special candle outside of the chapel. It is always lit to show that Jesus is in the tabernacle. By: Cobra
Tabernacle: Jesus is always in the tabernacle. By: Tiger

  1. This is a very cool post!! I learned things that I never even knew or thought to ask!! Sink straight to the ground? WOW! is that in all Catholic Churches? Love Fr Joe's favorite chasuble.

    Swan came home telling us all about going into the church and seeing everything. She was so excited. I'm so envious that she gets to learn all of this!! What a wonderful year for her - she's so excited about all the changes that are coming.
