Our First Second Grade Field Trip

Today we went to Gizdich Ranch. It is an apple farm. We drove in cars all the way there. -Lion

When we got there we got to play on all the fun kid toys. There was a tractor and a giant pile of hay with a tunnel. -Bunny

We took lots of pictures as a class. Then we met the two tour guides. -Python

We went to pick apples with our buckets. We each had to pick five. -Leopard

When you pick the apple you twist it to the sun, so the tree would just give it to you. -Dog

After picking the apples, we sorted them into bins. There were red and green apples. I even found a double apple. -Swan

We talked about Johnny Appleseed and learned about truths and myths about him. Did you know his real name is John Chapman. -Cheetah

After learning about Johnny Appleseed, we got to learn about how they sort the apples at Gizdich. -Cat
They sort them in a giant green machine. The machine choose the good ones and got rid of the bad ones. -Cobra

The green machine also shot the little tiny ones that you can't eat out. -Humming Bird

Then it sorted them by color and size. -Giraffe

The green machine gave all the apples a bath, cleaning them so that there would be no germs. -Kitten

They put them in boxes. Some of them were shipped to stores to be sold, some were sold to make apple juice and others the ranch made into apple juice and pies. -Rhino

The tour guides then took us to see where they made apple juice. They take some of the squishier apples and they make them into apple juice. -Hamster

The tour guides let us watch a short video on how they cut the apples, and squish them to make apple juice. It was great learning. -Horse

At the end we got to eat one apple and try their apple juice. They were delicious!! -Penguin

Some of the adults got some apple pies and apple juice. -Roly Poly

It was a really fun trip and we're glad we got to go. -Butterfly

It was very fun! -Spider

We learned a lot about apples and how they got from the farm to the table. - Snake

  1. I had such a great time on the field trip. What was even more fun was listening to my group of kids on the drive there and back. My girls were SOOOOO talkative.

    Apple farms are SO FUN!
